Peter Ricketts on Social Security

Republican Senate Challenger

Social Security benefits should be completely tax free

Social Security benefits should be completely tax free. That's how Social Security was originally intended to function. When I was governor, we eliminated state income taxes on Social Security benefits. We need to provide this same relief at the federal level. I'm fighting to protect Social Security. I'm fighting to help Americans keep more of their hard-earned money in retirement.

Personal accounts are protected from Congress

Regarding Social Security, Ricketts said, "In 2017 the money coming in will not cover commitments made. Personal accounts are a great idea because they will be protected so that Congress can't use them for other programs."
