Dan Cox on Civil Rights

Maryland shouldn't pay reparations for slavery

Q: The new state reparations commission is starting work. What would be on or off the table in terms of compensating families still suffering the effects of slavery and state sanctioned discrimination?

Cox: I don't think that is a way forward for Maryland to pay for something that is egregious. I think we've got a problem when you look at who to pay, I've joked about this, you know, because I ask do I pay my wife? Or my children? My wife descends from an African slave. I think we have a problem with how that is done. Do I have empathy and do I wish to make sure things are made right? Absolutely. Ultimately we need to make sure the people of Maryland are protected and not charged for something they have nothing to do with.

Moore: We have now invested over $1.3 billion in our state's HBCUs. We have allocated $4.3 billion going to our state's women owned businesses, minority-owned businesses. I signed the largest mass pardon in history. This is the work of repair that is taking place.

Critical Race Theory is Marxist propaganda

Remove CRT (Critical Race Theory) from public schools: "CRT is Marxist propaganda and it has no place in our civil and free society. I will also fight to restore local control of education and curriculum and will support parental rights in education."

Filed suit against high school transgender accommodation

A federal lawsuit that was filed in response to a Maryland school system's policy regarding transgender students has been dismissed. Cox said he was working on behalf of a 15-year-old girl at Frederick County High School. "The purpose of her suit was to protect her own privacy and the rights of girls to not have to undress in front of the opposite sex in their own bathrooms," he said. "Her personal dignity is at the forefront of our interests."
