Cut taxes for working families

I believe in the promise of this state that if you work hard, where you come from should not limit how far you can go. I am running for Governor to deliver on that promise by investing in our people and their futures and building a state with a thriving economy, safe communities, and strong schools. As Governor, I will work to deliver the economic security and peace of mind that every North Carolinian deserves by lowering costs, raising the minimum wage, and cutting taxes for working families. I will work to build safe communities by confronting the fentanyl crisis and recruiting and retaining well-trained, public-spirited law enforcement officers. $520 tax cut for every average working family

Stein said he is proposing the working families tax cut, which would reinstate the State Earned Income Tax Credit. It was eliminated in 2014, according to information from the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities. It is different from the federal earned income tax credit, which families still can claim.

Stein's office estimates the average working family could receive more than $520 if the proposed plan is put in place, and families with three or more children could see as much as $1,486 back in their pockets from the tax credit.

"It's all about putting more money into the pockets of working people, raising children out of poverty and stimulating local economies," Stein said.
