Maura Healey on Budget & Economy

Promised to go after every federal infrastructure dollar

People want safe, modern infrastructure. So, I promised we'd go hard after every federal dollar. In two years, we brought home more than $9 billion--for roads and bridges, solar power, high-speed internet, and more. In transportation dollars alone, we went from 34th place to 7th nationwide, jumping ahead of larger states like Florida, Ohio and North Carolina. We won funding to take the next steps forward on West-East Rail. And we got the biggest bridge grant ever given for the Cape Cod Bridges.

Invest $8 billion over ten years on transportation

Now, we can start building the system you deserve. Here's how we'll do it. Not with new taxes, but with smart, forward-thinking management. Our plan is to invest $8 billion over the next 10 years to make transportation better in every corner of our state. We'll put the entire system on stable financial footing, something we haven't had for decades. When we do this, you'll see the results.

Dealing with a housing shortage that's decades in the making

We tripled tax credits for new housing and increased low-income housing credits. We funded 1,000 new rental vouchers and identified surplus public land for new homes. These steps will make a difference. But we're dealing with a housing shortage that's decades in the making.

To get costs down, we have to go big, and we have to do it now. That means passing our $4 billion Affordable Homes Act--the most ambitious housing plan in Massachusetts history.

Stimulus checks cannot be seized by debt collectors

[On COVID relief checks]: "These stimulus payments must go directly to help struggling people and families pay for housing, food, utilities and other basic needs, and not into the hands of debt collectors," AG Healey said. "We are issuing this guidance to put the debt collection industry on notice and to make sure consumers are aware of their rights under the law."
