Sarah Huckabee Sanders on Budget & Economy

Will work to slow the out-of-control growth of government

Our priorities are reflected in our budget. Hard as it may be, I made a promise to the people of Arkansas that we would work to slow the out-of-control growth of government. With the help of my Cabinet, we kept it. This year's budget increases spending by only 1.76%, far below the 3% year-over-year increase we've averaged in recent years. Send me a budget that funds critical services for Arkansans while slowing the growth of government and I will sign it.

Biden takes your money, then raises prices

In the radical left's America, Washington taxes you and lights your hard-earned money on fire, but you get crushed with high gas prices, empty grocery shelves.

From out-of-control inflation and violent crime to the dangerous border crisis and threat from China, Biden and the Democrats have failed you.  It's time for a change. Tonight, let us reaffirm our commitment to a timeless American idea: that government exists not to rule the people, but to serve the people.  Democrats want to rule us with more government control, but that is not who we are. America is the greatest country … because we are the freest country.

Phase out income tax; stop exponential growth of government

[On tax & spend]: "We have to begin to phase out our income tax, but we have to do it responsibly. We have to make sure we're prepared to make up that lost revenue," she says. "It's not going to be any one thing, but a collection of things that allow us to do that. And it's going to take a little bit of time to get there. One of the other things we can do is stop the exponential growth of government. As conservatives, we have to be able to reign that in and pass those savings on to the taxpayer."

Trump brought a booming economy and trillions in new wealth

Just a few days before Christmas the Senate passed the president's tax cuts with unanimous Republican support, and the president signed it into law. We celebrated at the White House, and American business celebrated by handing out Christmas bonuses to millions of their employees. We had finished the presidents first year strong, and despite some setbacks, it was clear the president had a lot of major achievements to be proud of--a booming economy--millions of new jobs and trillions in new wealth-- lower taxes on families and businesses--repeal of the ObamaCare mandate--greater energy independence--confirmation of Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court--ISIS on the run and their caliphate in ruins.

The press never gave the president much credit for these achievements--90% of the media coverage in the first year of the Trump presidency was negative. The American people ended 2017 much better with Trump than his predecessor, but you certainly wouldn't know it from the media coverage.
