Served as assistant Attorney General under David Souter

Public service must be rooted in the value that politics should work to solve problems. It's why I'm proud of getting my start in public service as an assistant Attorney General under then-Attorney General David Souter. When Justice Souter hired me he told me that I answered to the people and no one else. I was answering to the people when I was the first N.H. prosecutor to put polluters in prison. I was answering to the people when I fought in Congress to end denials for preexisting conditions. I've been answering to the people when I voted three times against Wall Street bailouts and for tough new regulations to hold the big banks accountable. I was answering to the people when I stood up for equal pay and equal rights. In the Senate, I'll answer to the people by fighting to pass tax cuts for small businesses that create jobs, stop tax breaks for companies that ship jobs overseas, and expand investment in renewable energy to create new, clean energy jobs.
