Mark Kelly on Foreign Policy

Israel has right to defend itself, but has made mistakes

Q: What's your view on Gaza?

KELLY: October 7th was unprecedented for the country of Israel. They have not been attacked like that from a terrorist group. And Israel has every right to respond in an appropriate way.

Q: Has Netanyahu made mistakes as he's conducted this war?

KELLY: He's absolutely made mistakes. A lot of them. I've talked to him about some of those specifically. If it was the U.S. military conducting this, I think you would see this would go much differently than it went.

Iran, Ukraine, China: this is all connected

Q: Why is China using this moment to help Russia with its war in Ukraine?

KELLY: Well, I think they realize that the outcome of this war, Russia against Ukraine, is critical for their own decisions with Taiwan and the western Pacific. This is all connected, Iran, Ukraine, China. The stock of Ukrainian ammunition is dwindling. They're going to run out of ammunition, Russia's capacity is going up. With the help of China, Russia can win this. If we support Ukraine, Ukraine can win.

Hasn't thought much on Jerusalem embassy; seems to work

When asked about Trump's decision to move the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem, Kelly was agnostic. "I haven't given it a ton of thought," he said. "It's gone, it's been moved, seems to be working. A lot of the folks that were critical of it and said all this negative stuff is going to happen, that doesn't seem to me that those things took place. But I haven't given it a ton of thought on moving an office from one building to another."

Supports strong military, but must rebuild alliances

Mark will work across the aisle to ensure that nothing stands in the way of keeping our military strong and our country safe. Mark flew 39 combat missions and understands the importance of a strong military, but he believes first and foremost in the value of diplomacy. He will work with our allies and partners to tackle our shared threats. He will ensure that the United States remains a global leader and that our allies know that they can continue to trust us. Mark is committed to rebuilding our traditional alliances and restoring American leadership in the world.
