Gloria La Riva on Homeland Security

Party for Socialism and Liberation nominee for President

Abolish CIA, NSA, FBI; disband NATO

We call for the abolition of the Central Intelligence Agency, the National Security Agency, and all other institutions of covert warfare. We stand for unconditional disarmament by the United States. We call for the disbanding of NATO and all other aggressive military alliances, and the closing of all overseas bases. We call for the abolition of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Opposed collection of citizens' digital communications

Section 309 of the intelligence bill sets a five-year limit, with many exceptions, on the retention of U.S. persons' communications collected, which was issued well before widespread use of cellphones and the Internet. Members of Amash's staff noticed the section Wednesday morning, and the Michigan Republican rushed to the House floor, rallied opposition with a letter to colleagues and secured a roll call vote. But opponents failed to defeat the bill.

The Patriot Act is racist profiling

An immediate end to the racist profiling of Arab, Muslim and South Asian communities is necessary. The Patriot Act and related federal & state legislation passed as part of the racist “war on terror” must be overturned immediately. The secret FISA court, which issues hundreds of secret warrants each year to the FBI to conduct domestic spying, must be abolished now. The Guantanamo Bay detention center must be shut down and all those incarcerated must be returned to their families and communities.

Transfer billions from Pentagon budget to jobs

Instead of using our tax dollars to fuel the destructive Pentagon budget of more than a half a trillion dollars per year, the La Riva/Puryear presidential campaign calls for redirecting that money to create millions of union jobs for unemployed and underemployed working-class people.
