JD Vance on Gun Control

Unfortunately, we have to increase security in our schools

JDV: I unfortunately think that we have to increase security in our schools. We have to make the doors lock better. We have to make the doors stronger. We've got to make the windows stronger. We've got to increase school resource officers because the idea that we can magically wave a wand and take guns out of the hands of bad guys, it just doesn't fit with recent experience. We've got to make our schools safer, and I think we've got to have some common sense, bipartisan solutions for how to do that. TW: We understand that the Second Amendment is there, but our first responsibility is to our kids to figure this out. There are reasonable things that we can do to make a difference. It's not infringing on your Second Amendment. But I ask all of you out there, do you want your schools hardened to look like a fort? Is that what we have to do, when we know there's countries around the world that their children aren't practicing these types of drills? They're being kids.

Red Flag laws eliminate rights without any due process

A tweet from JD Vance: "So all of us agree that we don't want insane people to go and buy a gun and kill people. The question is how to actually accomplish that goal. Importantly, it's already a violation of federal law to sell a gun to a crazy person. What do red flag laws do? They allow the government to eliminate peoples' rights without any due process. Say your neighbor calls the police and says you're a bad guy who's about to commit a crime? Or maybe your ex complains about you after an argument? Now the cops can show up and remove your firearms." [Twitter, @JDVance1, 6/2/22]

2018: "Vance appeared to endorse new laws to disarm those who are an imminent danger to others. 'We should make it easier to take those guns out of the hands of people who are about to use them to murder large numbers of people. We've got to have the right balance between protecting citizens, but also protecting our really important and fundamental constitutional liberty.'" [American Journal News, 3/21/22]

I will fight the gun grabbers punishing law-abiding citizens

Joe Biden and anti-democracy multinational companies are trying to find new ways to take guns away from law-abiding citizens. They're making it harder to buy firearms and ammunition, and imposing new, unconstitutional regulations on American citizens. I will fight the gun grabbers, whether they're federal bureaucrats enacting regulations or multinational companies punishing people for exercising their rights.

Grandmother gave tough love, discipline; owned 19 handguns

Turbulence was common at home and at school. JD's father left home when he was a young boy. His mother struggled with drug addiction his entire life. His grandmother, called Mamaw, was his saving grace. Her tough love and discipline kept him on the straight and narrow. That, or maybe the fact that she owned 19 handguns. She taught him the importance of being grounded in faith and family and the prospect that a better life lay ahead.
