State of New Jersey Archives: on Foreign Policy

Tom MacArthur: Focus on alliance with Israel and peace through strength

Tom supports a return to Ronald Reagan's foreign policy approach of peace through strength that reasserts America's commitment to the values of life, liberty and pursuit of happiness for all.

Tom understands that Israel is America's most stable and reliable ally in the Middle East. He values our shared commitment with Israel to the democratic ideals of religious, individual and economic freedom. Tom believes that Jerusalem is the rightful capital of Israel and he supports Israel's right to defend itself against terrorism and aggression by its neighbors and terrorist organizations. Tom believes that we must continue to provide both economic and military aid to Israel, and work in concert with Israel and other allies to prevent dangerous actors in the region from obtaining nuclear weapons.

Murray Sabrin: A common sense, humble, noninterventionist foreign policy

To make the case for liberty, free enterprise and a common sense--humble, noninterventionist--foreign policy, I will echo the wise words of President George Washington in his Farewell Address more than 200 years ago: No foreign entanglements and commerce with all.

Robert Menendez: International sanctions against nuclear program in Iran

Q: How should the US respond to the potential threat from Iran?

KEAN: The US must be steadfast in our efforts to address nuclear proliferation, most importantly in Iran and North Korea. The concerns arising over nuclear proliferation in Iran are justified when we reflect on North Korea which withdrew from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and has already declared itself a nuclear state.

MENENDEZ: I’ve also fought to end Iran’s nuclear weapons program through legislation aimed at stopping its development. For years, Iran has deceived the international community and supported terrorist organizations. It’s hardly a coincidence that Hezbollah kidnapped Israeli soldiers on the very same day Iran was to answer to the international community- touching off the conflict in Lebanon. As Iran continues its nuclear program-enriching uranium and refusing to dismantle-I support the UN Security Council resolution threatening Iran with international sanctions.
