Tom Leppert on Tax Reform

Flat tax is an opportunity to expand the base

Leppert: A flat tax is an opportunity to expand the base. The tax code has more words than the Holy Bible.

Cruz on flat tax proposal: There is a permanent elite in Washington in both parties protecting tax code.

James says he supports a flat tax "at the lowest possible rate."

Dewhurst: "I am in favor of a fairer tax, a flatter tax."

Extend Bush tax cuts permanently

The Bush tax cuts should be extended permanently. While the two-year extension may boost consumer spending in the short term, it will not have the intended impact on business investment and job creation because of the continued uncertainty of tax rates in the longer term.

Our goal should be to identify additional tax reductions for consumers and employers so they can grow and hire. In addition, it is time to simplify the tax code, making it fairer and more straightforward.

Adopt a single-rate tax system.

Leppert signed the Contract From America

The Contract from America, clause 4. Enact Fundamental Tax Reform:

Adopt a simple and fair single-rate tax system by scrapping the internal revenue code and replacing it with one that is no longer than 4,543 words--the length of the original Constitution.
