Stephanie Murphy on Gun Control

Elect pro-LGBTQ candidates who support sensible gun reforms

In response to the largest mass shooting in American history this summer at Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, a group of people affected by the tragedy came together to create the Pride Fund to End Gun Violence PAC--an effort to help elect pro-LGBTQ candidates at the national level who support sensible gun reforms. As someone who lives in a region with countless families directly impacted by the Pulse tragedy, Stephanie is proud to have received the inaugural endorsement of this group and she will help lead the efforts to strengthen LGBTQ rights and pass long-overdue commonsense gun security legislation in the U.S. Congress.

Advocate for commonsense gun security laws

With preschool children facing lock-downs to deal with potential shooters and innocent people fearing another mass shooting like the one here in Orlando, Stephanie is fed up with politicians putting politics ahead of solutions. That's why she will advocate for commonsense gun security laws like universal background checks and banning people on the no-fly, terrorist watch list from purchasing weapons.

No fly, no buy: no guns for people on terrorist watch list

Stephanie supports universal background checks to keep guns out of the hands of criminals, suspected terrorists and the severely mentally ill, including closing the gun show loophole. She also supports "no fly, no buy" because if you can't board an airplane, then you shouldn't be able to purchase a weapon without extra scrutiny. Finally, she supports increasing resources to address mental health through both early detection and treatment.

Supports restrictions on right to bear arms.

Murphy supports the CC survey question on Second Amendment

The Christian Coalition Voter Guide inferred whether candidates agree or disagree with the statement, 'Further Restrictions on the Right to Keep and Bear Arms' The Christian Coalition notes, "You can help make sure that voters have the facts BEFORE they cast their votes. We have surveyed candidates in the most competitive congressional races on the issues that are important to conservatives."

Supports gun-control legislation.

Murphy supports the PVS survey question on gun control

The Project Vote Smart Voter Guide inferred how candidates would respond to the question, 'Guns: Do you generally support gun-control legislation?' Project Vote Smart notes, "in response to the increasing unwillingness of candidates to answer issue questions, Project Vote Smart has researched Congressional candidates' public records to determine candidates' likely responses on certain key issues. These issue positions, from the year 2016, are provided [for candidates who] refused to provide voters with positions on key issues covered by the 2016 Political Courage Test, despite repeated requests. Historically, candidates have failed to complete our test due to the advice they receive from their parties and advisors and out of fear of negative attack ads."
