Thank our military and law enforcement for their sacrifice

I want to thank all the men and women in the military and in law enforcement who put their lives at risk every day to protect us. On May 1st, Sergeant Patrick Scott Johnson and Trooper Gabriel Rich were killed in the line of duty in Tanana. Our thoughts and prayers are with their families and those families of other law enforcement officers and servicemen and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

To our military and law enforcement families: I speak for all Alaskans and say thank you for the sacrifices you make daily for us. Your fathers, your husbands, your mothers and daughters--these are the heroes who protect our freedoms and keep us safe. These are the gallant and the brave who help us all sleep a little better at night.

Friend & strong advocate for our veterans & their families

All of our veterans, whether WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan and many other actions, put their lives on the line for all of us. The freedoms we enjoy today have been purchased by the blood of our servicemen and women, and we do not take any of that for granted.

Veterans' and their families deserve just as much recognition and help today as they did when they were active duty.
The effects of military deployment on family health, and for returning and redeployed soldiers are now well-established.
Families experience stress before, during and after deployment.
Spouses left at home face financial challenges, loneliness and additional parenting responsibilities.
Children experience anxiety and stress often lasting well beyond the initial deployment.
