Bob Beauprez on War & Peace

Former Republican Representative (CO-7, 2003-2007)

We cannot be silent in the face of injustice in Iraq

In Iraq I made the choice that freedom is not easy, that it requires effort, sacrifice, and vigilance. It also requires leadership with moral clarity and the willingness and conviction to call evil by its name and take aggressive action against it. To remain silent in the face of injustice, genocide, jihad, tyranny, and terrorism is not tolerance, it is cowardice. We cannot be tolerant of injustice, for when we are, good people die.

As the war lingered on without clear progress and with growing numbers of casualties, patience at home and around the globe quickly waned. The coalition members began to grow weary, and increasingly it became the US's war, save our good friends the Brits and Aussies. Critics who were willing to explain in great detail mistakes and the horrors of war were plentiful.
