Eliminate qualified immunity for police and judges

Criminal Justice Reform: Atwater is outspoken about the need to address political and judicial corruption, eliminate qualified immunity for police and judges, and dismantle the private prison system. She is particularly critical of CoreCivic, a private prison company operating in Tennessee, and calls for an end to profiting from incarceration.

Reform prison system; I believe in a second chance

If elected, Atwater said she would work to transform the state's prison system. "I think that we have people making money off people doing things they aren't supposed to do, but I believe in a second chance," Atwater said, stating that those with prior felonies would be able to vote. "I know they deserve a second change because I work with them hand-in-hand," Atwater said.

Reduce crime by investing in robust community policing

[On police reform]: "As Governor, I'll reduce crime by investing in robust community policing, and I'll fund prevention programs focused on those most likely to commit violent crime, because everyone deserves to be safe in their homes and communities."
