Mitch Landrieu on Crime

Voted YES on bail for persons arrested while on probation

SB447 on CRIMINAL PROCEDURE:Allows a judge to set bail, in certain instances, for person arrested while on probation.

Veto message by Governor Murphy Foster: Senate Bill No. 447 generally mandates that a court grant bail to a defendant who is arrested while on probation for a prior offense. Present law leaves the matter to the discretion of the court. Granting a right to bail in this circumstance is undesirable.

Legislative Outcome: Passed House 98-0-7 on Jun/17/97; State Rep. Mitch Landrieu voted YES; passed Senate 34-1-4 on Jun/22/97; Vetoed by Governor Murphy Foster on Jul/15/97.
