Grace Ross on Corporations |
ROSS: I think it's really critical that we understand that all of the tax breaks and most of the property breaks are only going to the very large corporations. Small business owners are concerned about health care costs and utility costs. We need real universal health coverage that's going to take the health care burden off of those of us who are self-employed, off of small businesses and off of our municipalities. It's a huge expense.
A: YES, there are a number other such loopholes that also need to be closed. The tax burden in recent decades has moved more and more onto the shoulders of working class and middleclass residents and away from corporations and higher income individuals even as critical services for middle and lower income individuals have been cut. No wonder regular people feel like we are paying more and getting less - the answer is that we are! But we need to even out the tax burden so that we get more of what we pay for and then regular people will not resent paying taxes which are more justly distributed.
