We need determination. We need to be unflinching. We need to be focused on the goal of destroying ISIS. We are at war. Our homeland is in danger. [We need] a coherent plan for destroying ISIS and telling America, "We can do this." That is leadership.
It may not be exactly comparable to Pres. Reagan's often-repeated goal of defeating Soviet communism and his message that yes, "We can do it." But now is the time for our leaders to say we can destroy ISIS.
Why have we not called for an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council to get a war resolution through immediately? And why hasn't Congress already passed a new authorization for the use of military force? And why have we not called an emergency conference of our Arab allies in the Middle East, to declare war and organize a campaign to destroy ISIS?
There could be a U.S.-Iran deal that postpones Iran's nuclear weaponization for 10 or more years. But Iran will continue to sponsor its terrorist proxies, like Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon, keep proxy troops in Syria, further its designs on Yemen and confront Sunni Saudi Arabia. And don't forget, the US has labeled Iran's own Quds Force and Revolutionary Guard as terrorists.
This is why economic sanctions are crucial. Western-nation sanctions are slowly but surely smashing the Iranian economy. We have effectively stopped the flow of money and oil for Iran. The Iranian budget, which dominates the state-run economy, needs $130 a barrel. Today's $50 price is an economic killer.
