Common sense: ban assault weapons, close gun show loopholes
"Common sense gun control" means we can recognize the right of citizens to own firearms for purposes of hunting, sporting, and self defense, and also recognize that we need laws designed to keep firearms out of the hands of convicted criminals,
children, and the mentally unstable.
It makes sense to outlaw assault weapons, because they are not required for self-defense and they are illegal for hunting.
It makes sense to close the gun show loophole and require background checks
on all purchases of firearms, not just those bought at regular stores.
The new law concerning the negligent storage of firearms (which I co-sponsored) makes sense.
It sends the message that we will not tolerate irresponsible gun storage in New Hampshire. If you leave a loaded gun accessible to a child without adult supervision, and the child uses it to injure or threaten someone else, you will be fined.
