We cannot tax and spend our way to prosperity

In Illinois, Tax Freedom Day--the day of the year when the average Illinois family stops earning money to pay for taxes, and starts earning money for itself--fell this year on April 15. That's 105 days of working to pay your taxes. And Cost of Government Day--the day of the year on which the average Illinois family has earned enough gross income to pay its share of the spending and regulatory burdens imposed by government on the federal, state, and local levels--fell on August 15. That's more than two-thirds of the year we spend, just to pay the costs of government.

We simply cannot tax and borrow and spend our way to prosperity--the results of the last decade's experiment in liberal government have proven that.

We'll need to start a phased in tax cut, beginning with repeal of the lame duck session's tax hikes on personal income, business income, the death tax, and business losses.
