Respect the traditional institution of marriage
Senator Cornyn strongly believes that every individual is worthy of respect, and that the traditional institution of marriage is worthy of protection. He supports providing opportunity for all and removing government limitations on freedom so that
every citizen has the chance to realize the American dream.
Government must provide a "hand-up" for citizens, not merely a "hand-out." The best gifts government can give to citizens are the ability and skills to improve their own lives.

Strengthen families by supporting marriage
Cornyn will continue to enforce child support laws and to pass laws that strengthen the American family. He will continue to champion the institution of marriage.
John Cornyn believes that whenever possible, a child deserves the support and nurture of a two-parent family. He will fight to reverse tax and welfare policies that discourage productive work and marriage, including the unfair marriage penalty tax.
