Reduced property taxes as Seattle port commission

Bill was elected to the King County/Seattle port commission in 2007 to help the port become more fiscally responsible. When Bill was first elected, the port's tax rate was almost at its maximum legal amount. Every year since Bill's election, he successfully worked to cut property taxes or hold them flat, while expanding services.

Washington State needs a good shot of fiscal responsibility. Washington develops budgets based on the previous years' budgets, rather than identifying each agency's critical missions and key priorities, and funding those first. When "wants" exceed revenue, new taxes are proposed rather than that first triggering a reassessment of priorities. Bill believes we need to take a pressure hose to Olympia. As governor, he wants to:

Establish a moratorium on new regulations until the effectiveness of existing regulations can be evaluated.
Launch a 4-year zero base budgeting exercise that will refocus the budget on our state's key obligations and priorities.

As port commissioner, his lean budget led to tax relief

Bill Bryant is convinced this his "fiscally conservative, socially libertarian" message could resonate around the state, as he makes political rounds in Washington and seriously considers a bid for the governorship. He also argues that he helped craft a leaner port budget that helped relieve pressure on taxes.
