Expand the Earned Income Tax Credit

If I’m your next United States Senator, I’ll expand the Earned Income Tax Credit. This program gives lower-paid workers a rebate, or discount, on the federal income taxes they pay each year. A family of four with two or more children making $34,000 a year can receive back as much as $4,200. It’s not a hand out. To qualify the taxpayer must have a job and pay taxes. Since its inception in 1975, the EITC has lifted 4.8 million people out of poverty, including 2.6 million children.

LouLease: $50M statewide Homeownership Effort

LouLease, a landmark $50 million affordable lease-purchase homeownership initiative that will enable hundreds of Louisiana families to buy homes, was officially launched today. This program will reach a segment of the population that has been denied homeownership opportunities. Families who have experienced credit difficulties, or who have never established a credit history will benefit most from this groundbreaking initiative.

“The Lease-Purchase Program is making homeownership a reality for countless Louisiana citizens,” said State Treasurer John Kennedy. “Owning a home is now more affordable, especially for those who may have otherwise been unable to qualify for traditional mortgages. There’s nothing quite like the feeling of walking into your new home for the first time. I applaud Freddie Mac for making that possible for more Louisiana families.”
