As the son and grandson of Holocaust survivors, Phil has dedicated his career to ensuring that all people--no matter their gender, ethnicity, faith, or who they love--are free from discrimination, hatred, and oppression. His commitment to these American values is rooted in his family's story.

Phil's mother was born in captivity in the Buchenwald concentration camp, where his grandmother was imprisoned by the Nazis during World War II.
