Don Stenberg on Energy & Oil

Republican Senate challenger (NE)

Defeat Cap and Trade; global warming is unproven

I am opposed to cap and trade. The climate of the Earth has repeatedly warned and cooled for thousands of years. As recently as the early 1970s, climate scientists warned of mass global cooling if governments did not take drastic action.

The evidence is inconclusive as to whether the activities of man, specifically the use of fossil fuels, have a major impact on the Earth's climate. Indeed, the use of fossil fuels simply returns carbon dioxide that was once in the atmosphere back into the atmosphere.

Imposing massive tax increases on energy consumption or limiting our energy development through cap and trade, will further depress our economy and increase unemployment. This is far too high a price to pay in response to an unproven theory of what might cause the climate of the earth to change in the future.

Open Alaska and offshore to oil and gas development

Our energy policy has been dictated by radical environmentalists. They have blocked or limited the development of energy resources in Alaska and off our shores, and blocked the construction of oil refineries.

We urgently need a common sense national energy policy that will open parts of Alaska and offshore to oil and gas development, that will promote the construction of needed oil refineries, and promote renewable fuels like ethanol and bio-diesel that we can produce right here in Nebraska.

Develop domestic energy to lower prices

Energy prices are too high. I will work to develop our domestic energy resources, build new oil refineries, and promote alternative energy sources like ethanol and bio-diesel.

Cap-and-trade has no impact on global temperatures.

Stenberg signed the Contract From America

The Contract from America, clause 2. Reject Cap & Trade:

Stop costly new regulations that would increase unemployment, raise consumer prices, and weaken the nation's global competitiveness with virtually no impact on global temperatures.

Explore proven energy reserves & keep energy prices low.

Stenberg signed the Contract From America

The Contract from America, clause 8. Pass an 'All-of-the-Above' Energy Policy:

Authorize the exploration of proven energy reserves to reduce our dependence on foreign energy sources from unstable countries and reduce regulatory barriers to all other fo
