Blame China for the coronavirus
PENCE: China is to blame for the coronavirus. President Trump stood up to China that had been taking advantage of America for decades in the wake of Joe Biden's cheerleading for China.
President Trump made that decision before the end of January to suspend all travel from China. The American people deserve to know Joe Biden opposed President Trump's decision to suspend all travel from China.
HARRIS: The Trump administration's approach to China has resulted in the loss of American lives, American jobs. There is a weird obsession that President Trump has with getting rid of whatever accomplishment was achieved by President Obama and Vice
President Biden. They created the office responsible for monitoring pandemics. They got rid of it. There was a team of disease experts that President Obama and Vice President Biden dispatched to China to monitor what might happen. They pulled them out.

Trump moved embassy to Jerusalem and destroyed ISIS
President Trump kept his word when we moved the American embassy to Jerusalem. NATO is now contributing more to our common defense than ever before thanks to President Trump's leadership. When President Trump came into office, ISIS had captured an area
of the Middle East, the size of Pennsylvania, but President Trump unleashed the American military and our armed forces destroy the ISIS caliphate and took down their leader, al-Baghdadi without one American casualty.

The world knows this: America stands with Israel
If the world knows nothing else, the world knows this, America stands with Israel. This president has done more to support our most cherished allies than anyone could have imagined just three short years ago. We got out of the Iran nuclear deal.
He recognized Israel's sovereignty over the Golan Heights, and President Donald Trump moved the American embassy to Jerusalem, the capital of the state of Israel.

Robust missile defense in Europe against Russian aggression
On April 10, 2015 , Pence flew with a delegation of Indiana business leaders, political donors, and politicos to Berlin. The formal announcement from the governor's office was that this trip was about trade and nothing else. Meanwhile,
Pence's team pitched the Berlin trip as something else. The national press corps bit. "I believe the United States and EU must respond with deeds more than words to strengthen our economic and strategic defenses,"
Pence said in the prepared remarks his team leaked to Fox News. "I believe we must take immediate steps to deploy a robust missile defense in Europe, especially in Poland, and
the Czech Republic-to protect the interest of our Nato allies and the United States in the region. Stronger economic ties and stronger defense is the strategic response to Russian aggression.

No nukes for Iran; support Iranians but not government
Iran has announced they're going to exceed the uranium enrichment limits within the Iran nuclear deal, one of the worst deals this country had ever entered into. The President's decision to refrain from a military strike when he learned it could cost
150 Iranian lives sends a message. It's time for Iran to recognize that America will never allow them to obtain a nuclear weapon. That would be a threat to our country, a threat to our cherished ally, Israel, and a threat to the world.

We stand with the Iranian people against the Ayatollahs
Since the Green Revolution in 2009, the United States has made it clear that we are with the Iranian people. While we stand firmly against the Ayatollahs we have the highest hopes for the Iranian people. But it's time for Iran to recognize that the
United States of America will never allow them to obtain a nuclear weapon. Those days must come to an end, and America is going to continue to stand, resolved, with the people of Iran for a better future for them.

America represent the highest ideals of humankind
Q: When asked about Russia being "killers," President Trump responded, "What, you think our country is so innocent?"PENCE: That quote was a commitment to explore the possibility of starting anew and looking for common cause with Russia and with
President Putin.
Q: Doesn't that put the US on moral par with Putin's Russia?
PENCE: I simply don't accept that there was any moral equivalency in the president's comments.
Q: President Obama was criticized consistently by conservatives for not
praising American exceptionalism.
PENCE: We recognize the extraordinary superiority of the ideals of the American people and the implementation of those ideals.
Q: Do you think America is morally superior to Russia?
PENCE: I believe that the
ideals that America has stood for throughout our history represent the highest ideals of humankind.
Q: But America morally superior to Russia, yes or no?
PENCE: I think it is without question.

Re-engage the world but put America first
Q: What does Donald Trump feel about Russia?PENCE: The president-elect is willing to approach this terrible relationship the United States has with Russia today with fresh eyes and to at least be open to a better relationship with Vladimir Putin and
with Russia. Look, we have some common interests that would be well served if we were able to improve our relationship with Russia. The president-elect is determined to re-engage the world, put America first, and see if we can make progress for the
security and peace of the world.
Q: Does Donald Trump demand that Russia get out of eastern Ukraine?
PENCE: Whether it be eastern Ukraine or Crimea, that the action by the Russians has demonstrated the absence of American leadership over the last
eight years--
Q: What does the new leadership want to do?
PENCE: I think America is going to be more respected in the world the very moment that Donald Trump takes the oath of office as the 45th president of the United States.

Reverse Obama's opening of Cuba; restore the embargo
Mike Pence declared to a roomful of Miami Republicans night that the Trump administration would maintain the U.S. embargo against Cuba upon entering office. "Let me make a promise to you: When Donald Trump and I take to the White House, we will reverse
Barack Obama's executive order on Cuba," Pence said. "We will support a continuation of the embargo until we see real political freedom in that nation once and for all."President Obama's executive actions, in part, have lifted a series of
restrictions on Cuba, opened a U.S. embassy in the country and established travel and business between the two nations. He issued additional directives to further loosen restrictions aimed at increasing trade with the island nation.
"Barack Obama and
Hillary Clinton would lift the embargo completely and normalize relations with Cuba for nothing in return," Pence said. He continued: "The truth of the matter is if they could open it up all the way, they would."

America's place in the world is weakened
PENCE: For the last seven-and-a-half years, we've seen America's place in the world weakened. We've seen an economy stifled by more taxes, more regulation, a war on coal, and a failing health care reform come to be known as ObamaCare, and the
American people know that we need to make a change. KAINE: Governor Pence doesn't think the world's going so well and he is going to say it's everybody's fault.
PENCE: Do you?
KAINE: Let me tell you this.
When Hillary Clinton became secretary of state, Governor Pence, did you know that Osama bin Laden was alive?
PENCE: Yes. [But] at a time of great challenge in the life of this nation, where we've weakened America's place in the world and stifled
America's economy.
KAINE: Do you know that we had 175,000 troops deployed in the battlefield in Iraq and Afghanistan? Do you know that Iran was racing toward a nuclear weapon and Russia was expanding its stockpile?

Fight Russia with strength and allies
There's an old proverb that says the Russian bear never dies, it just hibernates. The weak foreign policy of Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama has awakened an aggression in Russia that first appeared a few years ago with their move in Georgia,
now their move into Crimea, now their move into the wider Middle East. All we do is fold our arms and say we're not having talks anymore. We need American strength. We need to marshal the resources of our allies in the region.
America is stronger than Russia. Our economy is 16 times larger than the Russian economy. America's political system is superior to the crony, corrupt capitalist system in Russia. When Donald Trump and I observe that the small and bullying leader of
Russia has been stronger on the world stage than this administration, that's stating painful facts. That's not an endorsement of Vladimir Putin. That's an indictment of the weak and feckless leadership.

Trump for extreme vetting of immigrants and no Syrians
Q: Does the Trump/Pence campaign call for barring Syrian refugees?A: Trump has called for extreme vetting for people coming into this country so that we don't bring people into the United States who are hostile to the American way life.
Donald Trump and I are committed to suspending the Syrian refugee program and programs and immigration from areas of the world that have been compromised by terrorism.

Other countries respect strength, not weakness
Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton's policies have weakened America's place in the world. Terrorist attacks at home and abroad, grim and heartbreaking scenes from France just a few weeks ago, and the attempted coup in Turkey all attest to a world spinning
apart. History teaches that weakness arouses evil. Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama's foreign-policy of leading from behind, moving red lines, feigning resets with Russia, and the rise of ISIS are a testament to the truth of history.

Don't have paranoid delusions about one world government
In a 1995 interview, Mike Pence echoed then-President Bill Clinton's call in denouncing the "promoters of paranoia" on the radio and singled out one radio host for promoting "one world government" conspiracies about NAFTA: "I think President Clinton is
right in that vein. We have rights in America. In tandem with those rights we have responsibility," Pence said. "Whatever type of journalist we are, whether it be in the entertainment business, or as professional journalists, we always have the
consequences of the way we present fact and information.Pence blasted one host by name, Stan Solomon, who he said promoted conspiracy theories about free trade: "Stan Solomon is a talk radio host who trades in conspiracy theories,
who trades in the idea that NAFTA, or GATT, are both part of a one world government conspiracy. While I don't believe that is true, we just don't want to fuel paranoid delusions."

Against agreement with Iran; keep all sanctions
Pence joined 14 other GOP governors in a letter to President Obama opposing the Iran nuclear deal: "I am opposed to this agreement because it will not make the US or our most cherished ally, Israel, safer. Instead, it promises Iran a lifting of US nuclea
related sanctions for an agreement on Iran's nuclear weapons program that will only halt its ambitions temporarily, rather than permanently dismantle its nuclear desires," Pence wrote. The letter asserted: "This agreement would lead to the lifting of
sanctions on Iran without any guarantee that Iran's drive toward obtaining a nuclear weapon will be halted or even slowed. Iran is a state sponsor of terrorism, and it should not be permitted any pathway toward obtaining a nuclear weapon, now or ever.
The lifting of federal sanctions that would only result in Iran having more money available to fund terrorist groups and attacks. We intend to ensure that the various state-level sanctions that are now in effect remain in effect.

We're in a global war of civilization against barbarism
The evil that came to the streets of Paris last week [in the terrorist attack against Charlie Hebdo] may seem far removed, but the brutal murder of our own Peter Kassig, a courageous aid worker killed by ISIS terrorists, is a stark reminder that we are
all part of a global war of civilization against barbarism.Tonight, Hoosiers will be proud to know that on the front lines of that war are some 300 airmen with our 122nd Fighter Wing out of Fort Wayne--the largest deployment of the

Russian "reset" is appeasement and invites aggression
I believe it is imperative that we who believe in democracy and freedom, stand against the forces that would reshape Europe by aggression. As some claim territorial gains, they forfeit moral ground. I remember too well the efforts by the US to "reset"
our relationship with Russia just a few short years ago. I said then that, "History teaches us that weakness and appeasement invite aggression" and feared that our country was rewarding an increasingly antagonistic Russia. With Russian aggression
on the rise again, it is clear that our policy of conciliatory diplomacy has failed. While new sanctions are of some value, in the interest of our alliance, I believe the US and the EU must respond with deeds more than words to strengthen our economic
and strategic defenses [including] deploying a robust missile defense in all of Europe. Stronger economic ties and stronger defenses are the right policy for our two countries and the right strategic response to Russian aggression.

Never apologize for who we are and what we stand for
If history has taught us anything, it is that weakness emboldens evil and rogue dictators grow strong when appeased. The American people have learned at a great price that peace is secured through strength.
Throughout the world, the United States has stood as a beacon of freedom and hope, and I am confident we will remain so.I have sought to ensure that the United States continues to stand for freedom on the world stage.
The United States should never apologize to our enemies for who we are and what we stand for. Extending a hand of cooperation to our enemies while pushing aside the concerns and interests of our allies will only endanger the
United States and our interests abroad. Few examples of this have become clearer than in the case of our most cherished ally, Israel.

$48B to Africa for AIDS program is a moral calling
In a rare display of bipartisanship in an overheated election-year, members of both parties and the White House joined forces to enact a five-year, $48 billion reauthorization and expansion of Pres. Bush's global AIDS program.
The measure was signed into law July 30. "We have people who can't take care of their own health needs and are at risk of losing their homes, and we are going to spend $50 billion in Africa?" asked Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA).
Pence, a fiscal conservative who supported the bill, saw it differently. "I believe
it's possible to be responsible to our fiscal constraints while being obedient to our moral calling," he said.

Voted NO on supporting democratic institutions in Pakistan.
Congressional Summary:Pakistan Enduring Assistance and Cooperation Enhancement Act (PEACE Act): Authorizes the President to provide assistance for Pakistan to support democratic institutions; economic development; human rights; health care; and public diplomacy. Proponent's argument to vote Yes:Rep. IKE SKELTON (D, MO-4): Pakistan is important to the Middle East and our intentions there. Their cooperation, of course, is so very, very important. This legislation gives economic and democratic development assistance to that country.
Rep. HOWARD BERMAN (D, CA-28): We can't allow al Qaeda or any other terrorist group that threatens our national security to operate with impunity in the tribal regions or any other part of Pakistan. Nor can we permit the Pakistani state and its nuclear arsenal to be taken over by the Taliban.
To help prevent this nightmare scenario, we need to forge a true strategic partnership with Pakistan and its people, strengthen Pakistan's democrat government, and work to make Pakistan a source of stability in a volatile region.
Opponent's argument to vote No:Rep. ILEANA ROS-LEHTINEN (R, FL-18): This bill focuses on past actions and failures attributed to the Pakistani Government, punishing the new leadership for the sins of its predecessors. While the authors of H.R. 1886 may have sought to empower our Pakistani partners to undertake the formidable task of fighting and winning against violent extremists, it does the opposite. We have gone down this road before. I recall during the Iraq debate, Members sought to prejudge the surge strategy before it could even be implemented. Let us hope that this will not be repeated with respect to Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Voted YES on cooperating with India as a nuclear power.
Congressional Summary:US-India Nuclear Cooperation Approval and Nonproliferation Enhancement Act:- Approves the US-India Agreement for Cooperation on Peaceful Uses of Nuclear Energy.
- Declares that it is US policy to prevent the transfer to India of nuclear equipment, materials, or technology from other participating governments in the Nuclear Suppliers Group or from any other source; and
- any nuclear power reactor fuel reserve provided to India for use in safeguarded civilian nuclear facilities should be commensurate with reasonable reactor operating requirements.
Proponent's argument to vote Yes:Rep. HOWARD BERMAN (D, CA-28): Integrating India into a global nonproliferation regime is a positive step. Before anyone gets too sanctimonious about India's nuclear weapons program, we should acknowledge that the five recognized nuclear weapons states have not done nearly enough to fulfill their commitments under the Nuclear
Nonproliferation Treaty, including making serious reductions in their own arsenals, nor in the case of the US in ratifying the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty.
Opponent's argument to vote No:Rep. BARBARA LEE (D, CA-9): In withholding my approval, I seek not to penalize the people of India but, rather, to affirm the principle of nuclear nonproliferation. Jettisoning adherence to the international nuclear nonproliferation framework that has served the world so well for more than 30 years, as approval of the agreement before us would do, is just simply unwise. It is also reckless.
Approval of this agreement undermines our efforts to dissuade countries like Iran and North Korea from developing nuclear weapons. By approving this agreement, all we are doing is creating incentives for other countries to withdraw from the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty.

Member of the Silk Road Congressional Caucus.
Pence is a member the Silk Road Congressional Caucus
The Silk Road refers to the ancient trade route through Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Armenia, Georgia, and Azerbaijan first explored by Marco Polo. The hope for the Silk Road Caucus is to help connect Central and South Asia and the Caucasus with the US, in an effort to encourage economic, cultural, and political exchange between our countries.
Why should Congress be interested in today's Silk Road? - Silk Road countries desire a deeper engagement with the US.
- China and Russia have recently begun to project influence into the Silk Road region, in some cases at the expense of US interests.
- Silk Road petroleum reserves have the potential of expanding world supply, resulting in better prices for U.S. consumers.
- Some Silk Road nations possess weapons of mass destruction, and U.S. involvement is critical to curtailing WMD proliferation.
- Extremist Islamic fundamentalism is attempting to disrupt and dominate politics in the region.
Countries of the Silk Road are seeking a well-conceived and proactive policy of engagement, which authorizes U.S. assistance to support their economic and political independence. After decades of Communist rule, these countries have faced a tough road toward economic development and prosperity, and the cultivation of a democratic society. It is important for Congress to provide and guide increased aid to support conflict resolution, humanitarian relief, economic and democratic reform, and respect for human rights in the region. It is clear that the U.S. can no longer abide by its current policy toward the region--one that emphasizes a stand back and watch approach. Economic prosperity, the growth of democracy, and the establishment of the rule of law in the Silk Road states is essential for regional stability and US national security. The US must actively engage this region--both economically and politically.

Pence signed United Nations Transparency, Accountability, and Reform Act
Directs the President to influence the UN to shift the funding mechanism for the UN from an assessed to a voluntary basis.- Withholds up to 50% of nonvoluntary US contributions to the regular budget of the UN unless 80% of the total regular budget of the UN is apportioned on a voluntary basis.

- The UN system suffers from unacceptably high levels of waste, fraud, and abuse, which seriously impair its ability to fulfill the lofty ideals of its founding.
- Amidst the continuing financial, corruption, and sexual abuse scandals of the past several years, American public disapproval of United Nations has reached all-time highs: 62% of Americans believe that the UN is doing a poor job
- Significant improvements in UN transparency and accountability are necessary for improving public perceptions of and American support for UN operations.

Commitment to unbreakable U.S.-Israel bond.
Pence signed Hoyer-Cantor letter to Secy. Clinton from 327 House members
Dear Secretary Clinton:
We are writing to reaffirm our commitment to the unbreakable bond that exists between our country and the State of Israel and to express to you our deep concern over recent tension. In every important relationship, there will be occasional misunderstandings and conflicts.
Our valuable bilateral relationship with Israel needs and deserves constant reinforcement. As the Vice-President said during his recent visit to Israel: "Progress occurs in the Middle East when everyone knows there is simply no space between the U.S. and Israel when it comes to security, none. No space."
Steadfast American backing has helped lead to Israeli peace treaties with Egypt and Jordan. And American involvement continues to be critical to the effort to achieve peace between Israel and the Palestinians.
We recognize that, despite the extraordinary closeness between our country and Israel, there will be differences over issues both large and small. Our view is that such differences are best resolved quietly, in trust and confidence, as befits longstanding strategic allies. We hope and expect that, with mutual effort and good faith, the United States and Israel will move beyond this disruption quickly, to the lasting benefit of both nations.
