Rebekah Kennedy on Crime

Green Senate challenger

Death penalty is an outdated practice

Q: Do you support or oppose the death penalty?

A: Do Not Support. Giving the government the power of life and death over its citizens makes a mockery of the concept of limited government. Even if we assume that certain human beings have the right to decide if others will live or die, false convictions and racial biases in sentencing are more than enough reason to oppose this outdated practice.

Opposes Three Strikes sentencing laws

Q: Do you support or oppose Three Strikes sentencing laws?

A: Do Not Support. In there present form, these laws send people to prison for life for relatively trivial offenses. I support laws to insure that violent habitual offenders are progressively sentenced and not given third and fourth chances to victimize others. I do not support a life sentence for a person who has a history of one violent assault and two hot checks.
