Definition of marriage is a states' rights issue

I am not in favor of the present wording of the proposed Federal Marriage Amendment , but believe it is a states' rights issue. If we leave this issue up to the states (i.e. the people, where most of the power in this country rightfully belongs), Congress should, under this provision, be able to pass legislation that would keep states from having to honor `marriages' from other states that do not conform to their lawful unions. Disappearing civil liberties need active checks-&-balances

Many from both parties should be pleased with my concerns about our disappearing civil liberties, and the failure of the Congress to be an active participant in the checks-and-balances portion of their responsibilities to protect those liberties and our Constitution.
