Require pay equity. Nationally, women still earn only 70% of men's wages for equal jobs. The federal government should mandate laws requiring equal pay for equal work, and should provide funding for the enforcement of such laws.

Fund support programs for single mothers

Single mothers are the largest and most severely impoverished group in the United States, which explains why 25% of the children in our country live below the poverty line. Welfare reform has forced mothers to abandon their children to travel to minimum wage jobs. With the extreme pay inequity, single mothers cannot afford child care, nurture their children, and move out of poverty.

Supports affirmative action and Reparations

Affirmative Action levels the playing field so that women and people of color have the chance to compete in education and in the work place. Centuries of discrimination have left people of color & women with significantly less resources & wealth than white males. White men hold 95%-97% of the high-level corporate jobs. The federal government should utilize all the means at its disposal to end this injustice, including affirmative action programs and monetary compensation for victims of discrimination

Increase efforts to end racial discrimination in employment, education, health care and housing. End official racism including the under-funding of schools and services within communities of color. End police brutality directed against people of color and stop the unequal application of laws and sentencing.

Strengthen LGBT anti-discrimination laws

Only 17 states have laws protecting gay & lesbian employees from discrimination. In the rest of the country, employees fired for being gay have no legal recourse unless they work in a locality with its own anti-discrimination ordinance. The federal government should strengthen civil rights laws to protect lesbians and gay men from discrimination in areas such as employment, public accommodations, housing, credit, union practices and education.

Extend domestic partnership rights to more GLBT workers

Extend domestic partnership rights: Domestic partner benefits, as they are widely known, are becoming an established part of the fabric of the American work place. The federal government must ensure that lesbian and gay workers receive equal benefits for equal work.

Support the right to marry for same-sex couples. Denying equal access to marriage deprives LGBT people of critical rights, protections and responsibilities and violates our nation's fundamental guarantee of equality for everyone.

Support rights for LGBT families: Lesbian and gay families are commonly denied legal protections that non-gay families take for granted such as adoption, custody, guardianship, and inheritance. Government should expand protections for LGBT families and defend gay parents whose relationships with their children are threatened because of homophobia.

Promote racial justice and defend affirmative action: Racism continues to undermine our communities. It is ever present, determining where we live, where we work and go to school, what opportunities are available to us, who we talk to, who we call our friends, who goes to jail and who doesn't and how long we are expected to live. Racism will not go away by being ignored, and it is not a legacy we should pass on to the future.
