Zach Poskevich on Welfare & Poverty

Give with a glad heart, through community, not government

As a nation, we have always been the most benevolent country and citizenry ever in the history of mankind, but that benevolence is being shackled by our federal government's insistence that it is the answer to our problems and the grantor of our rights. To the contrary, I believe that with the rights endowed to us by our Creator, we have the ability to prosper and give of the fruits of our labor in the privacy of our homes, our communities or through our houses of worship. I do not believe it is the government's role to determine the best use of our hard-earned money. The Bible tells me to give with a glad heart, and I believe in the inherent goodness of man--that they are compassionate and share their time and resources in the areas that give them passion, but they can only do so when they have enough money left over, not by taxing the achievers to give to the underachievers.
