Kathy Hochul on Abortion

Extremists won't stop at any one particular drug or service

Governor Kathy Hochul is the latest state leader to announce the purchase of abortion pills in response to a recent ruling. Hochul said New York state would purchase 150,000 misoprostol pills. This will be the first wave of purchases with more stockpiling possible. "Extremists, judges have made it clear that they won't stop at any one particular drug or service. So it's going to ensure that New Yorkers will continue to have access to medication abortion no matter what."

Overturning Roe changed nothing in NY, because I'm governor

[Republican challenger Lee Zeldin] came under consistent attack over his anti-abortion policy views and celebration of the Supreme Court's decision overturning Roe v. Wade. Zeldin has argued the issue is moot: New York state has passed strict abortion rights protections and, even if he wanted to, he could not change them.

Still, he did not directly answer a question from the moderators asking whether he would sign off on new restrictions if Republicans took hold of the state legislature--something Zeldin insisted was immaterial because "it's not happening."

Hochul returned to the issue frequently, touting the state law and promising to protect it from conservative politicians like Zeldin. "What we have in New York state is simply a codification of Roe v. Wade," Hochul said, when asked if she would put any restrictions on abortion. She then added, "You know why nothing changed the day after the Dobbs decision? It's because I'm the governor of New York and he's not."

Endorsed by NARAL Pro-Choice New York

NARAL Pro-Choice New York today announced the endorsement of Kathy Hochul for New York's 26th Congressional District. NARAL's Executive Director called Hochul a pro-choice voice, who will lead the charge for women's health care: "Kathy Hochul will be a powerful counterpoint to the opponents of women's health care who won their seats by claiming to be worried about jobs and the economy and then wasted no time pulling a destructive bait and switch. Kathy Hochul will stand up to those who would deny women access to critical health care services, while her opponent will stand with them."

"I am deeply grateful for the support of NARAL Pro-Choice New York," said Hochul. "Once in Congress, I will fight alongside NARAL Pro-Choice New York to ensure women have access to safe and adequate health services, without any interference from the federal government."

Endorsed Endorsed by EMILY's list for pro-choice Democratic women.

Hochul is endorsed by Congressional endorsement list

Our immediate focus is to protect our gains from 2008 and make sure President Obama has strong Democratic majorities in Congress. Its name? EMILY`s List--an acronym for `Early Money Is Like Yeast` (because it makes the dough--campaign funds--rise).
