Urge governor to veto sex-ed bill

The message to Washington Gov. Jay Inslee was loud and clear as a rally Wednesday at the Capitol in Olympia--veto the sex-ed bill. Several members of the Washington Senate Republican Caucus spoke. They voted against the bill that forces school districts to adopt controversial sex-ed curriculum.

Senator Phil Fortunato instructed the crowd to "call them to tell them to veto this." [Other legislators] said the sex-ed bill passed by the legislature is an affront to parents.

[Summary of S.5395 from KOMO-AM] Gov. Jay Inslee signed the bill; it will take effect in the 2021-22 school year for grades six through 12, and in the following years for all grades. The bill's opponents say the curriculum is too explicit. Several of the bill's opponents say sex education should be restricted to grades seven through 12. But supporters of the bill said all curriculum will be tailored to each child's individual grade level. The bill provides families the ability to opt their children out.
