Will insure affordable quality care for seniors
I will make it easier for seniors to afford prescription drugs, and I will work to ensure that hospitals and nursing homes remain open so that everyone has access to the quality medical care they need.

Use Florida model of purchasing prescription drugs in bulk
I support the Preferred Purchasing model used in Florida, Maine and other states. Under this plan, expert physicians and pharmacists identify the most medically and cost-effective drug in each category.
The state then negotiates lower prices by purchasing large amounts of those drugs. Florida expects to save $100M this year using this strategy.

Raise cigarette tax and use revenue to insure uninsured
We still have hundreds of thousands of adult citizens who work, pay taxes, and can't afford insurance. I support increasing the cigarette tax and dedicating those revenues to continue to reduce the number of citizens without health insurance.
Investing in reducing the numbers of uninsured has a double impact - it gives more people coverage, and reduces the burden on the free care pool.
