End gerrymandering; start automatic voter registration

Jeff has repeatedly sponsored bills to pass good government reforms such as establishing an independent redistricting commission, extending the waiting period for former legislators to become lobbyists, and implementing online and automatic voter registration in North Carolina. Senator Jackson has also regularly called the majority party out on their blatant attempts at corruption and bad faith procedures in the NC General Assembly.

Voted for shielding death investigation records from public

Veto Message:SB 168 includes a provision to change the handling of public records by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner which could have the unintended consequence of limiting transparency in death investigations.

Analysis by WBTV-3:Cooper vetoed Senate Bill 168 which closed a loophole that makes law enforcement records public if they are in the possession of the medical examiner. Protesters have expressed concerns that limiting public access to the death records could hide actions that happen in police custody. Some have said the lack of transparency would only serve to increase police distrust.

Need independent redistricting; current method is corrupt

A: Strong personal relationships with other legislators are indispensable. Debate all you want on the senate floor, but you better be able to walk over at the end and have a conversation.

Q: What process do you favor for redistricting?

A: We absolutely must implement independent redistricting. The current method - which my party used for far too long - is openly corrupt and to the extreme detriment of the state.
