Jack Ryan on Abortion

Abortion cheapens human life and human dignity

I will focus on three main issues while fighting for the rights of the unborn:
  1. Fight for the sanctity of human life from conception to natural death; With 1.3 million abortions per year nationwide and 45,000 per year in Illinois, we are cheapening human life and human dignity. We must pursue realistic legislative action to reduce these numbers, while waging the battle for people's hearts and minds.
  2. Bring out the best in our society by protecting those who cannot protect themselves We cannot abandon the duty we have to protect those who cannot protect themselves. "Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" includes the elderly, handicapped and unborn.
  3. Work with state and federal officials to advance the cause of protecting life; With continued faith, hard work, perseverance and pro-life elected officials willing to stand up and be counted, Americans will feel comfortable about being outspoken on issues relating to protecting the sanctity of human life.

Ban partial birth and late term abortion

I believe in protecting life from conception to natural death. It is crucial that, as a society, we work to create a culture of respect for life. Supporting legislation such as the Unborn Victims of Violence Act, Child Custody Protection Act and Abortion Non-Discrimination Act, while maintaining bans on partial birth and late term abortions, are first steps in the process of fostering this culture.

Life begins at conception

I believe that life begins at conception. It is an undeniable medical fact that a baby's heart begins to beat around 22 days from conception, around the same time their spinal column and nervous system begin to form, and the liver, kidneys and intestines are beginning to take shape. Not protecting these innocent children is unconscionable.
