Geoff Duncan on Education

Ensure more children enter kindergarten ready to learn

We must start earlier. I will expand access to high-quality early childhood education and strengthen Georgia's CAPS program so more working families can afford care and more providers can expand capacity. By improving reimbursement rates, reducing administrative barriers, and better aligning CAPS with workforce needs, we can support parents, stabilize the childcare sector, and ensure more children enter kindergarten ready to learn.

Direct resources based on actual student needs

Currently every school system across the state is funded the same way but they don't have the same needs. I will work with the legislature to transition to a student-based, poverty-weighted funding model that directs resources based on actual student needs while maintaining strong transparency and local flexibility. At the same time we must ensure students are ready to learn each day by continuing to expand access to free school meals and other basic supports that remove barriers to achievement.
