Josh Turek on War & Peace

End this war in Iran and let's get back to diplomacy

Q: Is the goal of the war to stop Iran from having a nuclear weapon?

Turek: We certainly don't want to see Iran have a nuclear weapon. That much is absolutely clear. My father went to Vietnam. It's because of his exposure to Agent Orange in Vietnam is the reason why, ultimately, I ended up with my disability as spina bifida. I'm an example of the generational consequences to these forever wars. And here we are again in another forever war with no strategy. We spent over $1 billion in Iran for what? Meanwhile, we're being told here in Iowa, we don't have money for roads and schools and hospitals and lead the nation in farm foreclosures. I think we need to end this war in Iran. And let's get back to diplomacy. I certainly don't want to see Iran have a nuclear weapon, but we have to end this war.

Hinson: We do need to bring it to an immediate and successful end. That means not allowing them to have a nuclear weapon and protecting our allies. We have to make sure we're holding them accountable.

National Guard out of combat unless Congress declares war

Josh is committed to supporting our troops and their families when they are on active duty and when they come home. He is the lead Democratic sponsor on bipartisan legislation to protect Iowa National Guardsmen from being sent into active combat unless Congress has declared war and from being sent into another state without the permission of the governor of that state.
