Chuck Baldwin on War & Peace

Constitution Party nominee for President; Reform Party nominee in several states

Develop exit strategy for phased withdrawal of US troops

Having opposed the war in Iraq from the start, Baldwin favors a phased withdrawal of U.S. troops from the country after first developing an exit strategy--"unlike John McCain who wants to keep us there for a hundred years and unlike Barack Obama, who has given us no concept whatsoever of what he plans to do."

We have become an occupation force in sovereign Iraq

If I were President, I would begin the process of safely extracting our troops from Iraq. In the first place, our troops are no longer fighting a war, they are an occupation force, which occupies a sovereign country. And this is being done without a Declaration of War. The Iraqi people resent our occupation as much as we would resent another nation stronger than ours invading and occupying America. If such a thing happened to our beloved country, I'm sure many of us would also become "insurgents."

In the second place, the invasion and occupation of Iraq was absolutely unnecessary. Instead of sacrificing more than 4,000 American lives and the lives of tens of thousands of Iraqi citizens (not to mention some $2-3 trillion dollars). Neither of the two major parties has any interest in bringing our troops home.

Opposed preemptive invasion; & opposes occupation of Iraq

I opposed the preemptive invasion of Iraq, and I continue to oppose the occupation of that country. I believe the Bush administration was untruthful about the motivations for going to war with Iraq and continues to deceive the American people to this very day.

Remove troops from Iraq; offer bounties on terrorists

McCain would keep American troops in Iraq for up to 100 years, whether anyone likes it or not. Hillbama would surrender to anyone who asked for a surrender. They would both work hard to appease anyone who yelled at them. Chuck Baldwin would remove our troops and at the same time offer bounties on the heads of terrorists. That's more dead terrorists and LESS dead Americans.
