Asa Hutchinson on Corporations

Former Administrator of D.E.A.; former Republican Representative (AR-3)

Not government's role to punish business for their views

I don't like what Disney said about the legislation that I would have supported in Florida, but it's not the role of government to punish a business when you disagree with what they're saying or a position that they take. If that was the view of a Republican, then we're going to be in all kinds of trouble in our businesses in blue states if they start punishing businesses for taking a more conservative speech or position.

Punishing business for exercising speech is heavy-handed

However you describe it, it appears to me that the governor did not like what Disney was doing in terms of what they were saying and exercising speech so they're being punished. But I think it is important that we make sure that we don't become heavy- handed in government to punish those that are creating jobs for Americans and creating income and growing the private sector. That's not what Republicanism is about. That's not what a conservative is about.
