Teach about alcohol, drug and tobacco in schools

Sen. Joe Carraro has introduced a bill that would require schools statewide to teach the effects of alcohol, drug and tobacco use. Senate Bill 410 would require schools to offer the three-hour classes, twice a year, in grades four through 12. "I think it should be part of the curriculum," Carraro said. Advocacy groups would help provide the education. People who have been victims of DWI crashes and those whose loved ones have been killed by drunken drivers have volunteered to teach the courses, he said. Decriminalize marijuana, and allow doctors to prescribe it

Decriminalize the possession of small amounts of marijuana.
Strengthen penalties and sentences for drug-related crimes.
Allow doctors to prescribe marijuana to their patients for medicinal purposes.
