Michael Cavlan on Drugs

Green Challenger

War on Drugs is really war on the poor and minorities

Q: Do you support or oppose the phrase “Drug use is immoral: enforce laws against it”?

A: Drug use cannot be termed moral or immoral. It’s a disease, unhealthy and should be treated as such. The ‘War on Drugs“ has been a hypocritical and cynical war on the poor and minorities. There are far too many people whose lives have been irretrievably ruined by being incarcerated for nonviolent drug offenses. While in prison they learn how to be real criminals. They must be sentenced to treatment for drug and/or alcohol abuse. It may have to be done more than once or twice, but it’s the only sane and humane method of dealing with the problem of saving lives.
