Brett Lindstrom on Education

Encouraged college savings plan for employees

Brett is committed to investing in our future for generations to come. It's one of the many reasons he passed legislation encouraging employers across the State of Nebraska to create and contribute money to a college savings plan for their employees. Many Nebraskan families are struggling to afford skyrocketing college tuition, but due to Brett's unwavering dedication to our kids, more students will be able to pursue their dreams at a fraction of the cost.

Empower parents; open to school choice

[At the debate], Charles Herbster got national attention for comments he made about education policy in Nebraska. "We're going to take sex education out of the schools and put it back into the homes where it belongs," said Herbster. Herbster believes, says his campaign with more nuance, that reforms are needed for children to be protected, that age-appropriate materials are taught, and for school boards to listen to local parents.

That position is similar to the other top two Republican candidates for governor. Jim Pillen spoke out against health and sex education standards; Pillen believes sex education should be up to parents, not the government.

Candidate Brett Lindstrom's team said he wants to empower parents. Still, many Republicans have made it clear they want some form of school choice--whether it be the majority of the legislature or Pillen and Lindstrom, who are both open to it.
