Small town values are the way to get country on track again

No one ever asks the question, "what about the crime wave in small towns?" Because in a small town, neighbors help neighbors. People understand each other. If a farmer gets sick, everybody comes together and helps him get the crop up. There's accountability. There's transparency. One thing I think this country could use is somebody in the White House that understands small town values because that's our road back to get this country on track again. When I'm on a horseback in the Badlands of North Dakota, it looks like the horizon is just limitless. The president is supposed to bring people together

If you're a legislator you put on your jersey, you fight for your side, you vote oftentimes along party lines. If you don't vote with the party, you vote at your peril. The president of the United States is the one that's supposed to unite people. It's supposed to bring people together. It's supposed to paint a vision about a powerful, positive future. When we talk about the best of America, growing up in a small town, the best of America is when neighbors help neighbors. When a farmer in North Dakota falls ill, the neighbors rally around, whether it's to get the crop planted or the crop harvested. Every spring in western North Dakota in the Badlands, when it's time for spring branding and roundup, the neighbors show up. Reinvented state government amid a $1B revenue shortfall

Burgum is a wealthy former software executive who lost the Republican endorsement but won the nomination in his 2016 primary challenge against Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem, the endorsed candidate.

Burgum ran in 2016 on a message of "reinventing" state government amid a $1 billion state revenue shortfall from sagging commodity prices, winning 76% of the vote with Brent Sanford, who is lieutenant governor.
