Military action that kill civilians may create radicalism
Do we talk about the price our nation, built on the foundation of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, may pay if others come to believe that we are indifferent to the deaths of civilians? The failure to make civilian casualties a full and
robust part of our national conversation over the use of force is dangerous--dangerous because of the impression that it gives the world about our country, and dangerous because of how it affects the decisions that we make as a country.

Republicans turned on Ukraine because Trump is still angry
Warren: We are a partner for Ukraine as they fight for democracy and I think that's powerfully important. The question we have to ask ourselves is why are these handful of Republicans who have turned their backs on Ukraine and the answer is because
Donald Trump is still angry with Ukraine because Ukraine wouldn't help him try to dig up dirt on Joe Biden back when Donald Trump was president.
Deaton: Of course I favor democracy but we've got to know what the plan is. And to the warmongers in Washington saying "Ukraine is going to win" is a plan, that is not a plan. That's a wish. We could have spent Medicaid money and expanded
Medicaid in the states that didn't adopt it, giving millions of more people health insurance for 20 years. It's been 30 years since Tupac said it, but I'm going to say it again. They've got money for war, but can't feed the poor.

Signed letter opposing Israeli annexation of territories
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Pramilla Jayapal sent a Dear Colleague letter to Secretary of State Pompeo, expressing concern that annexation would "lay the groundwork for Israel becoming an apartheid state" and calling for the non-recognition of annexed
land and withholding of some of the $3.8 billion in military funding. Her compelling letter was signed by a dozen other Congresspeople, including influential figures such as Rep. Ayanna Pressley and Sen. Bernie Sanders.
The AOC-Jayapal letter on annexation made headlines and sent the Israel lobby into a tizzy, frantically trying to stop any other lawmakers from signing on. But just a few days later, on July 2, another unexpected action came.
Sen. Chris Van Hollen, supported by Senators Sanders, Warren, Leahy, and others, filed an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act to prohibit US military aid from being used in any annexation activities.

Let Israelis and Palestinians decide together on Jerusalem
Q: Pres. Trump moved the US embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. Would you move the embassy back out of Jerusalem?WARREN: We need to encourage both Israel and the Palestinians to negotiate with each other. The US should not be putting a
thumb on the scale, should not be saying in these negotiations, "We stand only with one party." We should recognize that Israel has a right to its security. The Palestinians have a right to self-determination and to be treated with respect.
The two-state solution has been the official policy of the US and of Israel for nearly 70 years now. To make that happen, you want to be a good friend to Israel AND to the Palestinians. Our job is to get them to the negotiating table.
A: So, the
embassy?
WARREN: The embassy is what they should be negotiating. The parties should negotiate whether or not the capital is in Jerusalem, and then the US should move its embassy to be in the capital of each of the two states in a two-state solution.

Will follow Obama's policy on Iran, in a word, diplomacy
Iran is a bad actor. An Iran with nuclear weapons is a whole lot more dangerous than an Iran without nuclear weapons. President Obama realized this. The rest of the world realized this. So, President Obama worked with our allies and said, "Let's tell
Iran they need to stop their nuclear program. We're going to put economic pressure on them until they do it." It showed that you can make diplomacy work.

Restore help to Central America, to reduce border crisis
Q: How would you stop hundreds of thousands of Central Americans who want to migrate to the U.S.?Sen. Elizabeth WARREN: I think we have to look at all the pieces. Why do we have a crisis at the border?
In no small part because we have withdrawn help from people in Central America who are suffering. We need to restore that help. We need to help establish and re-establish the rule of law so that people don't feel like they have to flee for their lives.
We have a crisis that Donald Trump has created and hopes to profit from politically. We have to have the courage to stand up and fight back.
CEO Andrew YANG:
This country has been a magnet for human capital for generations. If we lose that, we lose something integral to our continued success. And that is where I would lead as president.

Alliances make us stronger & better able to face China
If you wanted to push back against China, your first move would not be to pick a fight with Canada and our other allies. We have a lot of trading partners who are good allies, and we should make sure that we are working with our allies.
That's what makes us stronger internationally. And many of our allies are just as worried about China as we are. We need to be working with them as we go forward.

Led bipartisan opposition to China's election interference
A bipartisan group of 12 senators has written a letter to senior Trump administration officials, urging them to craft a "comprehensive strategy" to counter covert Chinese interference in democracies around the world.
Led by Cortez Masto, the lawmakers outlined the growing threat that Chinese Communist Party activities pose to independent democratic institutions.
Democratic heavyweight Elizabeth Warren is a signatory to the letter, as is Chris Coons (D-DE) and Republican centrist Cory Gardner. The letter's wide spectrum of support suggests that, unlike the investigation into
Russian meddling, future attempts to uncover Chinese actions in the United States may have a bipartisan character.

Unequivocally support Israel's qualitative military edge
Since its founding more than 60 years ago, Israel and the United States have been steadfast, trusted, and reliable allies. I unequivocally support the right of a Jewish, democratic state of Israel to exist, and to be safe and secure.
The U.S.-Israel relationship is rooted in shared values and common interests, based on a commitment to liberty, pluralism, and the rule of law. These values transcend time, and they are the basis of our unbreakable bond.
To me, it is a moral imperative to support and defend Israel, and I am committed to ensuring its long-term security by maintaining its qualitative military edge.
Israel must be able to defend itself from the serious threats it faces from terrorist organizations to hostile states, including Iran, Hamas, Hezbollah, and others.

No UN membership for Palestine until two-state solution
I am a strong proponent of a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, which I believe to be in the interest of Israel and the United States, with a Jewish, democratic state of Israel and a state for the Palestinian people.
The U.S. can and should play an active role in promoting a diplomatic resolution to the conflict that is agreed to by the parties, but
I do not believe that a lasting peace can be imposed from the outside or that either party should take unilateral steps--such as the
Palestinians' application for UN membership--that move the parties further away from negotiations.

Sponsored bill to monitor forced Uyghur labor in Xinjiang.
Warren co-sponsored Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act
Legislative summary: The Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act:
- Requires corporations to prove with `clear and convincing evidence` that any products imported into the US and sourced from Xinjiang (XUAR) are not made with forced labor.
- Determine whether forced labor is `widespread and systematic and therefore constitutes atrocities.`
- List Chinese entities that use the forced labor of Uyghurs and other Turkic Muslim minorities.
- List products made by forced labor in the XUAR and a list of businesses that sold such products in the US.
- Sanctions for any foreign person who `knowingly engages` in the forced labor of Uyghurs in the XUAR.
Statement in support by Sen. Cruz: Sen. Ted Cruz joined Sen. Marco Rubio in introducing H.R.6210 to hold the Chinese Communist Party accountable for the use of force labor. `The Chinese Communist Party has transformed Xinjiang into a technological dystopia and a human rights horror,`
Sen. Cruz said. `Time and time again from the CCP we see the complete and total disregard for human life and values..`
Statement in opposition in Washington Post: Researchers estimate the Chinese government has placed more than 1 million people into internment camps in Xinjiang. While US law already prevents companies from importing goods that were made using forced labor, the law is seldom enforced. Apple is heavily dependent on Chinese manufacturing; alleged forced Uighur labor has been used in Apple`s supply chain. A report from the Australian Strategic Policy Institute alleged four instances in which labor from the Xinjiang region has been connected to Apple`s supply chain: In 2017, the Chinese government transferred between 1,000 and 2,000 Uighurs to work at a factory owned by O-Film, which helps make selfie cameras for Apple`s iPhone.
Legislative outcome: Passed House 406 3-22,(2/3 required) Roll no. 196 on 09/22/2020.

Ban imports from Xinjiang made by Uyghur forced labor.
Warren co-sponsored Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act
Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act (H.R.6256 and S.65): To ensure that goods made with forced labor in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region of the People`s Republic of China do not enter the United States market. This bill imposes importation limits on goods produced using forced labor in China, and imposes sanctions related to such forced labor. The bill also expands existing asset- and visa-blocking sanctions related to Xinjiang to cover foreign individuals and entities responsible for serious human rights abuses in connection with forced labor.
Al Jazeera news, `Biden signs law banning goods made in China`s Xinjiang region,` 12/23/21: President Joe Biden signed a new law banning products made in China`s Xinjiang region because of China`s oppression of its largely Muslim Uighur minority population. The law imposes a near-blanket ban on the import to the US of goods from Xinjiang by requiring suppliers to first prove their products were not made with forced labour.
Xinjiang is a large supplier of cotton and solar panels.
UN experts have estimated that more than one million people, mainly Uighurs, have been imprisoned in recent years in a vast system of camps in Xinjiang. The US and many rights groups have called it `genocide`.
China has rejected allegations of abuse in Xinjiang, accusing countries and rights organisations of launching `slanderous attacks` about conditions for Muslim Uighurs in the far western region. An independent UK-based tribunal ruled last week the Chinese government had committed genocide, crimes against humanity and torture of Uighurs and other minorities. The US cited the situation in Xinjiang in a decision earlier this month to launch a diplomatic boycott of the upcoming Winter Olympics in Beijing.
Legislative Outcome: Introduced in House and passed by voice vote on 12/14/2021; passed Senate by Unanimous Consent on 12/16/2021; signed by President on 12/23/2021.
