Josh Mandel on Homeland Security

AdWatch: served as Marine in Iraq; grandson of a soldier

Mandel last week aired a positive ad for the first time. Highlighting his military experience, the spot shows the 34-year-old Mandel, an Iraq War veteran, tying the laces on his Marine Corps boots, meeting with constituents and giving a speech. "Marine veteran Josh Mandel knows America's strength begins with the middle class," the narrator says. "Grandson of a soldier and a blue-collar laborer, Josh Mandel served two tours in Iraq, and came home to protect our tax dollars."

The Mandel campaign fired back at his opponent's Sherrod Brown's ad spot [criticizing Mandel's Treasury hiring practices as nepotistic]. The campaign also used Brown's ad in a fundraising pitch. "We'll take every dollar that we raise and use it to fund Josh's positive message of service to country and community," wrote Mandel's Campaign Manager in an email to supporters.

American intelligence must be ahead of the game

Josh is an American war veteran who served two tours of duty with the Marines in Iraq. Homeland Security is a top priority for Josh and an issue he takes very seriously. American military and intelligence must be ahead of the game when it comes to keeping America safe. Josh supports our soldiers and the freedoms that they fight for. Our great nation must continue to protect itself from those who threaten our freedoms and our allies.

First in Marine Corps class; two tours in Iraq

Inspired by a strong sense of duty to country, Treasurer Mandel enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves in 2000, where he graduated first in his class from Marine Corps Boot Camp and first in his class from Marine Corps Intelligence School. His Marine Corps career spanned eight years, including two tours in Anbar Province, Iraq as an Intelligence Specialist. During both tours he was awarded the Navy & Marine Corps Achievement Medal for "superior performance of his duties."
