Subdue hatred & extremism in Iraq & for long haul

I believe we will never see the day when America is not under threat of a terrorist attack either at home or abroad. A passive position will only get more Americans killed. We must take the fight to all those who threaten us. We must also convince our allies that the fight is not ours alone. United with the civilized nations of the world and resolute in our objective, we will be able check the advance and damage caused by the enemies of freedom.

In an ideal world we could politically maneuver around these issues, but that is not reality nor will it ever be. I am resigned to fight for everything America stands for. If that fight happens to be in Iraq, then so be it. When and if Iraq is ever peaceful we must then be resolved to move to the next advance on Islamic extremism. Only under constant pressure will we ever subdue their hatred. We are in this for the long haul. It is the price for freedom!

No nation building; let Iraqis run Iraq for better or worse

I do not believe the United States should be a nation builder outside of our ability to educate and inspire government reform. It is the responsibility of the people living within those nations to reform their governments. Let them attend our universities, teach them the principles of freedom and capitalism, support them as we can, but we can not do what they must do for their selves. When we have conquered the terrorists who use Iraq as their front against America, then we must pull back and let the Iraqis assume responsibility for their own nation. If this requires a civil war, well, we had to have one too! They need to learn to work together without the presence of the United States.
