Wendy Long on Homeland Security

Rebuild our military into an overwhelming American force

I pledge to you, my fellow New Yorkers, that if elected I will [support the following policy on the] Military: Support rebuilding our military into an overwhelming American force to pursue peace through strength; commit to total victory over Islamic terror and jihad and to preventing a nuclear Iran; and support reform of the VA to eliminate corruption and incompetence and deliver to our veterans the quality and speed of health care that they deserve.

Bush's anti-terror strategy succeeded; no threat to rights

At the Federalist Society, Attorney General Michael Mukasey delivered a speech of historic proportions: a disarmingly blunt apologia for Bush's legal positions and actions in War on Terror. He put down a marker for the incoming Obama administration: given the dangers involved and the stakes for the security of Americans, there will have to be a better reason than the empty criticisms voiced to date to justify an Obama departure from the Bush legal architecture.

The familiar refrain that the War on Terror has trampled constitutional rights, civil liberties, and even the rule of law itself rests "on a very dangerous form of amnesia that views the success of our counterterrorism efforts as something that undermines the justification for continuing them." Because the Administration's strategy has been successful--in the 7 years since 9-11, Al Qaeda hasn't launched another terrorist attack on American soil--the critics seem to assume that Al Qaeda "never posed much of a threat after all."

Supports banning military gay marriage.

Long supports the CC Voters Guide question on military gay marriage

Christian Coalition publishes a number of special voter educational materials including the Christian Coalition Voter Guides, which provide voters with critical information about where candidates stand on important faith and family issues. The Christian Coalition Voters Guide summarizes candidate stances on the following topic: "Prohibiting the military from forcing chaplains to perform same-sex marriages"

Supports maintaining a numerically superior nuclear arsenal.

Long supports the AFA survey question on defense superiority

The American Family Association Action Voter Guide asked if candidates agree or disagree with the statement, 'The United States must maintain a nuclear arsenal that is safe, reliable, modern and numerically superior to those of potential adversaries.' American Family Association Action (AFA Action) produces the online "iVoterGuide" for selected state and federal races. The mission of AFA Action is to inform and mobilize individuals to strengthen the biblical foundations of America.
