• Requires electric power suppliers to disclose on a customer's bill a uniform set of information about the environmental characteristics of the energy purchased by the customer, including:
• Its fuel mix, including categories for oil, gas, nuclear, coal, solar, hydroelectric, wind and biomass
• Its emissions, in pounds per megawatt hour, of sulfur dioxide, carbon dioxide, oxides of nitrogen, and any other pollutants
• Any discrete emission reduction retired and regulations adopted

Legislative outcome:Kean voted NAY; Bill passed Senate 23-15-2; bill died in House.

Wean America off of fossil fuels altogether

Reservations about Kyoto Protocol, but supports it locally

KEAN: While our nation needs to address greenhouse gas emissions and global warming, I have reservations about the Kyoto Protocol, particularly because it allows India and China, two of the world’s fastest developing nations as well as the top emitters in greenhouse gasses, to pollute the environment without any penalty. However, I am pleased that our states and cities have begun phased implement of Kyoto targets, including the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative.

MENENDEZ: Global warming is more than a mere “inconvenient truth” and a threat to our environment, economy and lives. It is the issue that will define our generation’s success. It’s past due for America to finally ratify the Kyoto Protocol--a starting point for the international community to begin addressing this worldwide problem. Sadly, Kean fails to mention national standards to combat climate change--because Kean holds stock in Big Oil and takes their campaign contributions.

Drives a hybrid car; opposes drilling ANWR

A Menendez surrogate accused Kean of profiting from high gas prices because he has investments in?and took campaign contributions from?oil companies. The skirmish shows Kean is determined to keep Menendez from having a free hand to grab publicity and trash Republicans over gas prices.

Kean supports using alternative energy sources, such as his driving a hybrid. A spokesperson said, “He doesn’t have a plan right now to reduce prices. His plan is we need to have comprehensive reform, and when he gets to Washington, he’ll vote for comprehensive reform.” Kean also opposes drilling in ANWR.
