Aaron Ford on Health Care

Create Medicaid-like plan available to all

Legislative Summary: AB408: AN ACT requiring the State Plan for Medicaid to cover certain preventive health care services and maternity and newborn care.

Nevada Independent, June 16, 2017: The four-page bill would have required state health officials to enter into a contract with a health insurer to provide a program that offers similar benefits to Medicaid (excluding emergency transportation services) and open to anyone, available on the state's insurance exchange.

Veto Message, June 16, 2017: "Moving too soon, without factual foundation or adequate understanding of the possible consequences, could introduce more uncertainty to an already fragile health care market, and ultimately affect patient health care."

Legislative Outcome: Passed Assembly 27-15-0 on Apr/25/17; Aaron Ford voted YES; passed Senate 12-9-0 on May/26/17; vetoed by Governor Brian Sandoval on Jun/16/17.
