Teri Hourihan on Health Care

Oppose ObamaCare in current form

Q: Your opinion on "Expand ObamaCare"?

A: No. I do not support expanding the Affordable Care Act in its current form. While its goal of increasing access to health insurance is important, I do not believe the current system has done enough to make healthcare truly affordable for individuals, families, or employers. Instead of simply expanding the existing system, I support creating more affordable insurance options, increasing competition among insurers, improving price transparency, and giving individuals and families greater flexibility to choose coverage that meets their needs and budget. We should also look at additional insurance models and coverage options for people who earn too much to qualify for assistance but still cannot reasonably afford premiums, deductibles, and out-of-pocket costs. Healthcare reform should be measured by whether people can actually afford and access care--not simply by whether they have an insurance card.
